Munnar is a town in the Western Ghats mountain range in India’s Kerala state. A hill station and former resort for the British Raj elite, it's surrounded by rolling hills dotted with tea plantations established in the late 19th century.
Munnar does not have its own airport. If you wish to fly to Munnar, the nearest airport is Cochin International airport (COK), which is located at a distance of 110 km from Munnar. From here on, you can hire a cab or board the Kerala road transport buses directly to Munnar.
September to March is the best time to visit Munnar because of pleasant weather. Summers (April - June) are a little warm, but one can still visit Munnar during this season. Monsoon season (July and August) experiences heavy rainfall which could hamper your travel plans and hence this period should be avoided.
Munnar - Tea Gardens, Lakes and Pretty little hill-station
Munnar is a popular hill-station of Kerala perched at an altitude of 1600 metres in the Western Ghats. Famous for its Tea estates, various shades of green, blankets of mist and craggy peaks, Munnar is aptly known as the 'Kashmir of South India'.
Situated on the banks of three rivers- Madupetti, Nallathanni and Periavaru, Munnar is also blessed with natural view-points apart from the tea-plantations. The Eravikulam National Park, Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary and tea plantations are its major attractions.
