Mumbai, formerly Bombay, city, capital of Maharashtra state, southwestern India. It is the country’s financial and commercial centre and its principal port on the Arabian Sea.

 

Located on Maharashtra’s coast, Mumbai is India’s most-populous city, and it is one of the largest and most densely populated urban areas in the world. It was built on a site of ancient settlement, and it took its name from the local goddess Mumba—a form of Parvati, the consort of Shiva, one of the principal deities of Hinduism—whose temple once stood in what is now the southeastern section of the city. It became known as Bombay during the British colonial period.

Mumbai by Rail: The city is the main headquarter for both the western and central railways. These rails connect Mumbai to other major cities through superfast, express and passenger trains. You can reach the Mumbai railway station through taxi, cab, bus, etc.


Mumbai by Road: Mumbai has been provided with luxury coaches. You can easily travel to the nearby place to Mumbai like Ahmednagar (253km), Pune (152 Km), and Shirdi (245 Km)

The best time to visit Mumbai is from October to February when the weather is pleasant and ideal for exploring and sightseeing. The temperature during this time ranges from 10 to 35 degrees Celcius. Mumbai receives copious rainfall during the monsoon from June to September. The temperature ranges from 20 to 30 degrees Celcius. Monsoon is the ideal time to visit Mumbai for taking a trek on the surrounding hills, because they look their greenest, with amazing waterfalls gushing down. Summer is not a good time to visit Mumbai because it is too hot and humid with temperatures between 25 to 38 degrees Celcius.
